La creazione dell'initrd fallisce anche utilizzando initramfs-tools? O è un problema legato all'utilizzo di yaird?
Per non andare in kernel panic è necessario compilare in modo statico il modulo del filesystem e quelli necssari per il controller dell'hard disk in cui risiede la partizione di root.
Per il fs, è istantaneo, si tratta di compilare staticamente il modulo relativo a ext2 ext3 o reiser che sia, sotto
File systems --->Per gli altri bisogna conoscere il nostro hardware... Yaird in effetti darebbe una bella mano nell'identificazione dei moduli fondamentali... ma cercando su google ho visto che anche ad altri utenti da lo stesso tuo errore.
Prova a controllare l'output di
lspci -v
per identificare il modulo del controller.
Ad esempio a me esce(riportando solo le parti di interesse):

così alla configurazione del kernel, sotto
Device Drivers ---> Serial ATA (prod) and Parallel ATA (experimental) drivers
seleziono per la compilazione statica: AHCI SATA support, NVIDIA SATA support, Generic ATA support.
ora il kernel è in grado di leggere la partizione di root, quindi di avviare il sistema.

p.s: non è che hai la partizione di root in raid?

Per non andare in kernel panic ho provato addirittura a compilare tutto staticamente, ma ottengo sempre kernel panic. Quindi yaird mi darebbe un aiuto enorme.
