Io il televisore non ce l'ho, ho solo MythTv.
Il pc è un Athlon 2100 con 512 Mb ram, DVB-S, DVB-T, analogivo. Il pc funziona bene, vedo quindi senza scatti.
Peccato che sia rumoroso.

Uso Debian da un po' di anni e non ho mai provato le altre distribuzioni per cui non ho idea se Debian sia la migliore o meno.
Aggiungo che la uso sia per hobby che per lavoro (a casa non ho il televisore, ho Debian con MythTv).
Al lavoro inoltre abbiamo una serie di apparati che vengono venduti con Debian ed il software scritto da me in C++ e Freepascal.

Non vorrei dire una stupidaggine io ma ciò che scrivi non ha senso.

I thread si possono usare qualora la piattaforma li supporti. I thread inoltre sono essenziali per il multitask, e linux lo è sempre stato, tutti i sistemi Unix lo sono sempre stati.

Al contrario il dos non era multitask (poteva far funzionare driver in backgroud per cui usava i thread secondo me), ed era a 16 bit anche su i386 (che era già a 32 bit). Linux invece è stato da subito a 32 bit dove si poteva, ed ai tempi del dos era già a 64 bit sulle piattaforme a 64.

Potrei sbagliarmi ma credo che sia proprio così. Poi ambienti di sviluppo potenti come BDS della Borland per Linux non credo che ce ne siano. Casomai si può discutere su questo.

Ho scritto un programma in Lazarus (clone di Delphi), che poi ho ricompilato anche in Debian Etch. Lazarus si basa su FreePascal, che a sua volta si basa sulle librerie gtk per la grafica.
Ebbene l'aspetto grafico del programma sotto Debian Etch è pietoso. Ho provato ad avviare l'eseguibile sotto Debian unstable (sperando che librerie runtime gtk, più recenti, rendano meglio) ma il risultato è lo stesso (Può essere che devo ricompilare sotto Debian unstable?).
Ora sto scaricando Ubuntu per fare una prova lì.
A voi come rendono i programmi, dal punto di vista grafico, sotto Debian?

Anche le librerie wxWidgets non sono uno sballo...

Ho impiegato un anno a scrivere un software da installare su una serie di apparati con Debian preinstallato.
tra poco partirà la produzione, se Debian dovesse sparire ora che abbiamo già istruito i tecnici sarebbe davvero un brutto colpo!

Sei un provato oppure hai un'azienda?
In passato ho scritto un software che regola il rapporto tra tecnici e clienti (per quanto riguarda le richieste di assistenza, gli appuntamenti e gli interventi) mai venduto a nessuno.
Per ora non c'è inclusa la gestione dei ricambi utilizzati ma se ti interessa fare da betatester se ne può parlare.

Usando i tuoi suggerimenti sono riuscito a configurare correttamente i driver, noto che la grafica è più definita.
Non riesco però ad utilizzare compiz, quando lo avvio si vedono cose prove di senso.
Nel fine di log di xorg non trovo nessun errore. Io ho 2 monitor collegati al pc, forse compiz con 2 monitor non funziona?

Ho installato il driver Ati proprietario il quale non mi ha dato nessun errore. Quando però avvio la sessione grafica lo schermo rimane nero: La sessione grafica però è attiva perché si sentono i tipici suoni di avvio sessione.
Ho eseguito aticonfig --initial senza alcun risultato.

Avete idee?

Sembra che tv_grab_it non funzioni più perché il sito da cui veniva presa la programmazione è stato modificato... Risulta anche a voi?

Come mai in debian instabile non c'è più il pacchetto linux-image per processori k7?
