Problema con X

SAlve a tutti.
Ho una debian Testing con xfree e gnome installati. Il mio problema è che quando sto in gnome mi compare al centro dello schermo una X come la X del puntatore del mouse. Il mouse però ha la sua bella freccia funzionante......come posso fare per toglierla? Mi basterebbe anche solo qualche suggerimento su dove andare a guardare!

devi aggiungere nella sezione device queste righe
che dicono a X di gestire il puntatore diversamente:

Option     "HWCursor"     "false"
Option     "SWCursor"     "true"

Ciao,
una volta istallati i driver ATI e configurati per abilitare il dual head, il monitor esterno funziona, ma non ci sono problemi con la visualizzazione della freccia del mouse nel monitor esterno: al posto della freccia ho un gigantesco quadrato.
Ho provato ad inserire le option di due post fa:

   Option          \"HWCursor\" \"false\"
   Option          \"SWCursor\" \"true\"

ma non risolvo niente.

Qualcuno mi può aiutare?
Sono su Debian Etch, Gnome.
